26 November 2012-Enjoying Coastal SC in the Fall

A wonderful Thanksgiving and my birthday were shared with my brother, Bob, who visited us from Atlanta.  Overlooking the ICW from Morgan Creek was a view we savored as we enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner. No muss! No fuss! No leftovers!
Strolling Charleston, like tourists, was pleasurable as we enjoyed balmy weather canopied by a cloudless azure sky. Leisurely poking around in galleries and chatting with artists was delightful. We do that only when we're "somewhere else". We find that when we're "home" and surrounded by our local culture, we tend to not take advantage of them.  We relished Bob's visit who encouraged us to see our city through the eyes of an out-of-towner.
This time of year is my favorite season to be at the beach. This is also one of the best times to see an abundance of Atlantic Bottlenose dolphins and to observe them strand feeding.  This is a process of feeding where they drive fish and other marine life onto the marsh beds and hurl themselv…

Although we retired from upstate Greenville, South Carolina, we kept Kindred Spirit III in Charleston from 2006, when we bought her until we retired and cast off lines in 2008, to be full-time cruisers.  We feel that returning to the Charleston area is also like returning home.We arrived here in Wild Dunes 11 October, intending to stay for a month.Friends Barbara and David came in and were our dock mates.Roger and Kim also arrived at the same time. We’ve been semi-traveling together since Waterford, NY, and Morehead City. Before we wished them happy cruising and they both headed for FL, we went to Shem Creek’s Vickery’s for a final repast for this season.

As “planned” we drove to Greenville (from where we retired) for some annual dental/medical/optical appoints.Although we took care of some of those in Charleston/Mt. Pleasant, I’m having great difficulty severing my attachment to my hygienist and internist--I’ve been their patient for 22 years!!!I’ve unsuccessfully tried others but they …

12 October 2012 Home Again! Southport - Myrtle Beach - Wild Dunes/Isle of Palms/Mt.Pleasant/Charleston, SC

After leaving charming Southport, we rendezvoused in Myrtle Beach with Barbara and David and Roger and Kim.  Without a doubt, you know we all "broke bread" together and had a sumptuous repast.
Roger and Kim are RV experts and we took advantage of their tutelage.  We loved the northern waters this past summer so well that we're considering leaving the boat in NY and and touring areas of our country that doesn't have "a river running through it."  This is a long-range plan so isn't to be interpreted as intending to give up boating.  In fact, during a bike ride yesterday through neighborhoods, I thought how awful it would be to have to buy a house which would be followed by choosing where we'd want to live.  We have no idea where that would be and if we owned a house I'd feel as if I were in a straight jacket, shackled and cuffed.  I love our nomadic lifestyle.

Even though we retired from Greenville in northwest SC where we'd lived for many yea…
